Students Promoting Environmental Awareness and Knowledge

Our Earth depends on us to live environmentally friendly lifestyles and reduce the amount of stress we apply to our surroundings. S.P.E.A.K.’s goal is to promote environmental awareness in our community while at the same time allowing students to live out what has been put into practice. By instituting more ecological programs and promoting more earth-conscious practices we hope to help not only our campus but also the world around us.

S.P.E.A.K. for the earth is a Trine University student organization that was founded in April of 2008 by Carey Abrams (a student at the time). It was started to try to get students to recycle on campus. Since its establishment, the group has expanded and undertakes more projects and activities every year. Recently, S.P.E.A.K. won $5,000 toward new recycling bins to put in residence hall rooms and promote recycling with the students. S.P.E.A.K. has two biannual events (the Canoe n’ Cleanup on the Pigeon River and the Adopt-A-Highway road clean-up in Angola) and one yearly event (Earth Fest). S.P.E.A.K. members are passionate about promoting environmental awareness anywhere they can and seek to institute more earth-conscious practices to campus and the world around us.
